Summary:
UNICEF may be the most familiar UN organization to many, yet the role it plays in promoting health and preventing deaths among vulnerable children and mothers may be little known.  UNICEF works in partnership with international organizations, governments, civil society groups and people at the grass-roots.  In an effort to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, UNICEF has been playing an important role in reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, and combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.  In this talk, I will present an overview of the holistic and interdisciplinary nature of UNICEF's work and its relevance to the HIGO programme.  I will also provide basic information for those interested in becoming international civil servants.
