Date&time:  Dec. 26(Thu.) 10:00-12:00

Purpose:
International students and Japanese students will discuss on "What Japan and Kumamoto should do for the world?" with Kumamoto's influential persons in politics, business and academia in order to deepen the direction of creating Kumamoto appropriate for the 21st century.

Theme:  "What can you do to change the world from Kumamoto?"

In the 21st century, 10 years has already passed but still we have not enviioned the clear direction of the city in the 21st century.
Today, Kumamoto has window of opportunity to create new future vision such as launching the Kyushu Shinkansen (Bullet Train) in 2011 and the transitio of the government-ordinance designated city (Seirei Shitei Toshi) in April 2012. Now, while rapid globalization and informatization flock at hand, there are various challenges and contradictions in modern local society such as aging population combined with the diminishing number of children, trend of nuclear families and attenuation of human relations.
With these recognitions of the current situation, we have to envision the urban strategy for the 21st century Kumamoto and create the concept of policy options, city planning or philosophy and ideas that support them. In Kumamoto Colloqium, based on this understanding we hope to discuss freely and flexibly from the viewpoint of the appeal which Kumamoto and Japan have that international students feel exchanging opinions among both international and Japanese students.
