Seminar & Symposium

Business Seminar

Speaker: Mitsuru Furusawa (Chief Scientific Advisor,Neo-Morgan Laboratory Incorporated.)

Dr. Furusawa is an evolutionist who proposes "disparity theory of evolution".
After experience as an academic researcher and a director of a big pharmaceutical company, he founded Neo-Morgan Laboratory.
Neo-Morgan Laboratory developed the evolution acceleration technology to elevate mutation rate at the DNA replication.
Using this technology based on "disparity theory of evolution", they have been engaged in 1) production of useful energies and substances from biomass (corns, sugar canes, agricultural waste) and algae, 2) breeding of useful microbes. Finally, they aim to develop a new agriculture and pharmaceutical industry, and also solve environmental problems.

Title: A Paradigm Shift in the Study of Evolution; - Acceleration of Evolution-

Abstract:
Living things somehow have a mysterious existence. They can express the features "not to change" (heredity) and "to change" (evolution) simultaneously. The cause of this paradoxical activity performed by living things can be traced back to the asymmetrical structure of replicating DNA. This is the basic concept of our disparity theory of evolution. Namely, as the leading strand of DNA is synthesized in a very precise manner, heredity is guaranteed. On the other hand, as the lagging strand is synthesized using a much more complex apparatus than the leading strand, it is error-prone and as a result, contributes to evolution.

In this lecture, I would like to explain the development of our novel evolution theory and the principle of the acceleration of evolution. Experimental results of the acceleration of evolution will be also presented. Finally, I would like to introduce our company Neo-Morgan Laboratory Incorporated to you. The company's main mission is a high-speed breeding of organisms by means of accelerated evolution.
