Hisamitsu pharmaceutical Co., Inc was founded in 1847. They have developed and provided pain relieving patches such as Salonpas. Their mission is "Bringing patch cultures to the world".
Hisamitsu has many branches in the USA and Asian countries etc to expand their business operations worldwide.

Dr. Terahara joined in Hisamitsu after completing a Graduated School of Pharmaceutical Sciences Kumamoto University. He contributed toward the development and the practical application of Transdermal Drug Delivery System (TDDS). He got a doctorate and studied abroad. He has written many books. He is currently directing the formulation laboratory of Hisamitsu. Furthermore, he serves as a professor of Advanced Pharmaceutical Sciences/Graduate School of harmaceutical Sciences at Kumamoto University, and is a visiting assistant professor at another university.
