Title:  Development of Reagents for Oxidative Stress Research

Abstract:
A multitude of cellular functions are regulated by a balance between oxidation and reduction, and an imbalance in favor of oxidation tends to generate oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is known to cause various diseases, such as diabetes and cancer, and also to accelerate aging, which is probably a cost of utilizing high-energy oxygen that we need to pay.  Since cells produce energy in the form of NADH, a reducing molecule in the cell, measuring oxidative stress or the cell viability is something like the two sides of a coin  Dojindo Laboratories has been focusing on the development of redox-sensitive reagents for use to measure oxidative stress or NADH, which, along with research reagents for antioxidant hydrogen sulfide, will be discussed in the lecture with some diagnostic applications.
