Title: Selling Biotechnology

Summary:
Since its 1979 introduction of the first domestically produced restriction enzymes - essential components of genetic engineering research - Takara Bio Inc. has been at the forefront of biotechnology in Japan. The company has continued to market a broad spectrum of advanced biotechnologies, ranging from the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method to next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, through the distribution of reagents and scientific instruments and contract research services not only in Japan and Asia, but all across the globe.

In this lecture, a brief sketch of NGS technology and its latest trends will be introduced and the present state and future potential of human genome analysis using the NGS technology will be discussed. I will also speak from my own experience to stress the importance of having multifaceted expertise and conclude the session with a case study of the human resources required by a company selling biotechnology, in the hopes of offering for consideration a profile of the kind of workers sought by enterprises.
